Do you suffer from chronic headaches and upper body pain? You could be suffering from TMJ disorder. We believe that there is a direct relationship between oral health and this kind of chronic pain. In my years working in neuromuscular dentistry, I have found that this type of upper body pain is frequently linked to occlusal or bite alignment problems, such as temporomandibular joint disease (also known as TMD or TMJ). TMJ affects millions of people. It is a chronic degenerative disease that may take years to develop. Occlusion (or bite) is affected by a triad of factors — the teeth, the muscles and the temporomandibular joints, and those who suffer from TMJ often have a structural imbalance in their jaw-to-skull relationship, caused by a bad bite.
